You don’t need an excuse to try the best curry houses in London but with National Curry Week falling on 3rd to 9th October, there is more reason than ever to treat your tastebuds to a Ruby Murray (as they call it in London).
Whether you prefer a traditional, authentic curry or you enjoy trying more unique variations of curries, London is home to a great choice of curry houses, and these are some of the best:
The Cinnamon Club
For a high-end culinary experience in a stunning setting, look no further than The Cinnamon Club in the former Westminster Library. This is Indian fine dining at its very best, serving creative Indian dishes such as Tandoori Portobello and king oyster mushrooms and clove smoked saddle of Romney Marsh lamb. The tasting menu is highly recommended and there is also a Jazz Brunch every Saturday.
Hoppers
Hoppers in Soho is an award-winning Indian restaurant serving Sri Lankan and South Indian inspired dishes. You can’t visit Hoppers without trying their famous runny egg hopper and their devilled prawns are too good to miss. Hoppers has a cool and trendy vibe with a unique cocktail menu if you want to sample a few drinks with your curry.
Babur
You’ll have to travel a bit out of the centre to try Babur (a short walk from Honor Oak Park tube station), but it will definitely be worth the trip. The gourmet menu is a big favourite with London’s curry lovers and the Sunday buffet is perfect if you would like to try a few different dishes to have the full Babur experience. The a la carte menu includes delights such as crab bonda, swordfish tikka, kasundi king prawns and Gressingham duck.
BiBi
This modern Indian restaurant combines contemporary dishes with local British produce. The selection menus are filled with innovative and tasty dishes such as lobster and caviar dokhla and aged Swaledale lamb. The restaurant has beautiful interior and an outside terrace that can be booked for up to 16 people. There is also the option to create your own bespoke menu and wine pairings, so it really does go the extra mile to please dining guests.
Dishoom
Dishoom in Shoreditch or Kensington is another trendy curry house offering a great range of food, including breakfast dishes such as fried eggs on chilli cheese toast or a crazy-paving three-egg omelette. Popular curries include Chicken Ruby and signature dish House Black Daal. Dishoom has a great reputation for serving delicious desserts too and the Gulkhand Mess is an unusual twist on strawberries and cream. Make sure you book your table in advance if you want to experience Dishoom’s unique cuisine.
